The United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs has made open accusations against Israel, saying that the Jewish state is systematically obstructing aid to Gaza with the aim of exterminating Palestinians.
For the head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Occupied Territories, Jonathan Whittall, there is no other explanation for the obstacles placed on the UN system, which has already been tested by time.
" We can reach every family in Gaza, as we have done routinely in the past. And yet, we are being blocked from doing so at every turn ," says Jonathan Whittall, UN.
For the UN official, the humanitarian catastrophe now unfolding in the territory is actually avoidable. “These are conditions that are designed to kill.” The occupying power, Israel, appears to be pursuing a policy of “extermination of the Palestinians,” Whitall says with conviction, recalling how Israeli military forces repeatedly open fire on people trying to get food.
" Trying to survive often turns into a death sentence ," he added. Since the lifting of the Israeli supply blockade a month ago, people searching for food have been killed "almost every day."
Just this morning, the Hamas-run Gaza Civil Defense confirmed the deaths of 21 people killed by Israeli forces near a food distribution center.
