Shortage of electricity production warned in Kosovo

The Energy Supply Operator, KESCO, has called on Kosovo citizens to save electricity, as there is expected to be a significant shortage of local electricity production from June 21st.
Through a media release, KESCO said it is making every effort to provide the necessary electricity to guarantee "system stability."
"To minimize the impact of this situation, KESCO calls on all customers to apply immediate electricity saving measures. Every kilowatt hour saved helps maintain supply stability and reduce overall costs, which would otherwise burden all of us," the company said.
A day ago, the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) announced that the A3 unit of the Kosovo A Power Plant had unexpectedly exited the system. Also, a few days ago, there were problems in the A5 unit of this power plant, while the A4 unit has been under repair since May 16 of this year.
But, on Friday, KEK said it had managed to put unit A3 into operation.
Kosovo cannot provide the necessary energy for its residents with production from KEK alone.
One of the reasons is the decades-old age of the Kosovo A and Kosovo B power plants, which operate on coal.
Through two thermal power plants, Kosovo has a production capacity of about 800 megawatts of electricity per hour, while the rest is imported. There is also production through renewable sources, but in smaller quantities./REL
