After the death of her brother and rape as a minor, a 17-year-old Dutch girl ends her life through euthanasia!

Milou Verhoof , a teenager from the Netherlands, chose to end her life at the age of 17 through euthanasia, which is legal in the country.

Milou turned to Dr. Menno Oosterhoff, a psychiatrist known for assisting with psychiatric euthanasia cases in young people.

He gave her the fatal injection in the room where she had spent her childhood, while Milou had carefully prepared for the moment, choosing the dress and heels for her ceremony.

Milou's mother, Mireille Verhoof, praised Dr. Oosterhoff, emphasizing that his decision was the right one for the girl and the family.

Milou had experienced multiple traumas: the loss of her brother to a short-term illness, rape at age 13, and deep depression, which led to failed suicide attempts and self-harm.

The documentary "Milou's Battle Continues" has followed her journey and the ensuing debates, sparking discussions about the possibility of euthanasia for teenagers with mental health problems.

The Dutch euthanasia law, passed in 2002, allows doctors to assist patients who request the termination of their lives in a voluntary and well-considered manner, when the suffering is unbearable and there is no prospect of improvement.

Most cases involve patients with terminal physical illnesses, but psychiatric cases are increasing, from 88 in 2020 to 219 in 2024.
