Toxic waste in Durrës is being moved after residents' complaints, 102 containers of waste are being sent to another area

The 102 containers with toxic waste belonging to the Turkish company Kurum International, which were previously located in Porto Romano, in Durrës, were moved this Sunday.
The relocation was carried out by order of the Prosecutor's Office to free up space, while the containers were sent to another private location in Spitalë, opposite the new neighborhood built for families affected by the earthquake.
The Sequestered and Confiscated Property Administration Agency, which administers them, has provided the infrastructure for storage, while the Durrës Police has provided transportation and the external perimeter, where the remains were placed.
Laboratory analyses conducted in Italy showed that industrial waste returned to Albania is toxic and dangerous to human health and the environment.
It concerns about 2,800 tons of toxic waste, located not far from the university campus and residential areas. The waste that was exported from Kurum to Elbasan and turned out to be dangerous led to an extensive investigation. The Durrës Prosecutor's Office has charged the managers of Kurum and the Sokolaj company, which exported the waste to Thailand, with responsibility.
Meanwhile, even in the new space, the containers remain exposed to atmospheric factors, increasing the possibility of damage, while it is not yet known what will be done with the waste and whether the conclusion of the trial will be awaited for its disposal or further treatment.
