War in the Middle East, EU warning after Houthi involvement: Avoid Yemeni waters, very high risk

The European Union's maritime safety body has warned commercial ships to avoid Yemeni territorial waters, due to the high risk of attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels, particularly in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
According to the EU naval mission, Aspides, the threat has been assessed as "high" for ships linked to Israeli interests, while it remains "medium" for ships not linked to Israel or the United States.
Authorities have particularly urged ships with American or Israeli ties to avoid the area until the risk is reduced.
The warning comes after Houthi rebels fired rockets into Israel and warned of more attacks to come, increasing tensions in the region.
The Houthis, who control large parts of northwestern Yemen, are considered a significant threat to maritime security. They have the capacity to disrupt traffic in the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a key point connecting the Red Sea to major global trade routes.
