Why is Europe leaving out Whatsapp and Signal?

European governments have decided to remove WhatsApp and Signal from their internal use. The initiative includes the governments of France, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Belgium, and the apps will no longer be used for the exchange of sensitive information.

While NATO uses its own messaging system, the European Commission will exit the two apps in question by the end of the year.

The media writes that this move is in line with the policy of creating alternatives to American technology, born out of the need to have control over the platforms used.

The same initiative has recently been taken by the Russian government, which has sought control over Telegram and created its own messaging services.
