Resort in Sazan, how Rama declared Trump's son-in-law a strategic investor; British media reveals the untold

A small island in Albania will become a luxury tourist resort.
The Albanian government has approved a request to transform the uninhabited island of Sazan, located on the Balkan Peninsula, into a sought-after holiday destination.
The request was made in March 2024 by Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law.
His plans to turn the island into a holiday resort are estimated to cost €1.4 billion (£1.2 billion).
A government decision on the island states: "The planned investment 'Tourist Resort on Sazan Island' of 1.4 billion euros meets the criteria provided for by the legislation for strategic investments."
"The projected investment meets the criteria for the number of jobs as required by the legislation on strategic investments."
"During the development and operational parts of the investment, the employment of 1,000 people is envisaged," the decision states.
It is also noted that the project will occupy approximately 562 hectares, of which approximately 45 hectares will be developed.
Jared Kushner has proposed the development of the Zvërnec area, which falls within the Sazan environmental protection zone.
The island, which is only five square kilometers, was once used as a military base.
During World War I, the island was occupied by Italy - a military commander was established on the island, which in Italian is called Saseno. The island was part of Italy from 1920 until after World War II, during which the Italian authorities built a lighthouse and naval buildings.
The island was ceded to Albania in 1947, under the post-war peace treaty with Italy. The island was used as a naval base until December 2024, but has been open to the public since 2017.
In recent years, Sazani has become a popular tourist attraction, especially during the summer. What makes the island most attractive to vacationers is its unique climate.
Due to the location, average temperatures range from 16C in January to 29C in June, meaning it is warm most of the year, while not too hot during the summer.
You can reach Sazan Island by boat or speedboat from Vlora with tickets costing €25 per person, while the journey takes 30 minutes.
On Tripadvisor, one visitor wrote: "A beautiful place, untouched for years with historic military buildings and a beautiful beach. One of the best places in Albania."
Another added: "This is a unique place, a former 'military island' that was closed to the public for decades. This is an exciting mix of untouched nature and rusty relics of the military past!"
The Albanian Riviera is a coastline that stretches from north to south of Albania.
Most Albanian beaches are wide and sandy, so you have to choose where to go. The northernmost part of the Riviera is Vlora, which most people visit before heading down to the coast, although it has its own beaches.
And in the southern part of the Riviera is Ksamil, which is close to the Greek border. / Pamphlet adapted from The Sun
