US, EU and Ukrainian officials meet in Britain today, ahead of Trump-Putin
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy and US Vice President JD Vance will host national security advisers from Europe and the US on Saturday to discuss Russia's war in Ukraine, Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office said.

British Prime Minister Starmer spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before the security meeting, according to the announcement.

The meeting will be "an important forum to discuss progress towards securing a just and lasting peace," the announcement said.

"Both leaders welcomed President Trump's desire to end this barbaric war and agreed that we must continue to pressure Putin to end his illegal war," the statement said.

"The Prime Minister concluded the conversation by reiterating his unwavering support for Ukraine and its people."

This meeting will be held one day after the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin was officially confirmed for next Friday in Alaska.

The aim of Trump's meeting with Putin is to end Russia's nearly four-year war in Ukraine.

There has been no mention yet of Ukraine's participation in the August 15 summit, despite Kiev and European countries' insistence that the war-torn country should be part of the negotiations.

However, Ukraine's national security adviser will attend Saturday's meeting, along with his European and American counterparts, Starmer's office said.

Vance is in the United Kingdom for vacation and began his visit on Friday with a meeting with Lammy at the British government residence in southeast London./REL
