A meeting of NATO foreign ministers has just begun in Brussels, where discussions are expected on the ongoing peace talks in Ukraine, as well as defense issues.
And in his opening remarks at the roundtable, NATO chief Mark Rutte says Russia "continues to test our deterrence capabilities" and "we face real and long-term risks."
Rutte goes on to say that Russia has violated its airspace with planes and drones, carried out sabotage and sent spy ships into its waters.
These actions are "reckless and dangerous," he adds, foreign media write, reports Telegraph.
Russia is "working closely" with China, North Korea and Iran "to disrupt our societies and destroy global rules", he says, and is "preparing for long-term confrontation".
Rutte stressed that NATO countries are "increasing our defense investments, but we all have to pull our weight."
He adds that Ukraine " needs our support more than ever " as winter approaches and Russian attacks continue.
Speaking briefly to the press upon arrival there, NATO chief Mark Rutte had said that while it was good that peace talks were continuing, NATO must ensure that Ukraine was in the strongest possible position.
He says officials will discuss "keeping Ukraine as strong as possible in today's war," but also " being in the strongest possible position when peace talks really start happening in a way that can lead to results ."
Rutte adds that the best way to put pressure on Russia is to ensure that weapons continue to flow into Ukraine and that Russia "feels the blow" from effective economic sanctions.
