Israeli army chief: We are ready to resume airstrikes on Tehran

The Israeli military is ready to resume strikes on targets in Iran's capital, Tehran, the head of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Saturday.

"The IDF is acting according to its operational plans and IAF (Israeli Air Force) fighter jets are ready to resume strikes on targets in Tehran," IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and Air Force Chief of Staff Tomer Bar said Saturday in an assessment of the situation.

Tehran launched a new wave of rocket attacks on Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities overnight and early Saturday, prompting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to vow that his military would launch further strikes against Iran.

Iranian missiles — and Israeli anti-aircraft missiles from the Iron Dome missile defense system — lit up the skies over Tel Aviv after midnight. Some of the missiles hit and exploded in buildings. Haifa and Jerusalem were also hit, military officials said.

At least three people were killed and dozens more were injured by the Iranian attacks, according to emergency officials.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced Saturday morning that it was striking dozens of rocket launchers in Iran, after previously targeting Iranian air defenses in the Tehran region.
Iran's representative to the UN said that 78 people were killed and over 320 others were injured in the Israeli attacks.

State television reported on Saturday that about 60 people, including 20 children, were killed in an Israeli attack on a residential compound in Tehran.

International leaders have condemned the violence but have also called for restraint.

United States President Donald Trump warned Iran to make a nuclear deal "before it's too late," and the White House said US ground forces helped Israel shoot down Iranian missiles during the first two waves.

Earlier, Israeli General Effie Defrin stated that both waves of rockets on Friday consisted of around 100 rockets each, "most of which" were shot down by air defense systems.
