The square turns into a war scene: Shooting in France injures 6 young people
Fear has once again gripped the poor neighborhoods of the southern French city of Nîmes after six people, four of them minors, were injured by gunfire on Friday evening in an incident suspected to be linked to clashes between rival drug gangs.
The attack took place in the working-class neighborhood of Waldeguer, near Pischevigny, an area known for extreme poverty and frequent conflicts linked to the drug trade. At around 7 p.m., gunmen opened fire from a car and then sped away. Among the injured are young men aged between 15 and 20, two of whom are in hospital but in a non-life-threatening condition.
Shocked residents are calling for more security. "This is becoming unbearable. We live in fear," one resident told French media. Police have launched an investigation, but it is not yet clear whether the victims were directly targeted or caught in the crossfire.
