Powerful explosion in a bar in Madrid, the body of a 52-year-old man is recovered

A tragedy struck the working-class neighborhood of Vallejas, south of Madrid, on Saturday afternoon, when a powerful explosion in a local bar caused one death and over 25 injuries, including three in serious condition.
The incident occurred around 4:00 PM at the "Mis Tesoros" bar, on the ground floor of a three-story building, and was accompanied by the partial collapse of the structure, leaving entire areas under rubble.
After hours of intensive work by over 18 fire crews, accompanied by canine units and rescue experts, authorities confirmed that the body of a 52-year-old man was found under about a meter of rubble and debris.
Officials have not yet released the victim's identity, but sources at the scene said he was believed to have been inside the bar at the time of the explosion. Firefighters managed to extract the body overnight, in a cautious operation due to the risk of further collapse.
According to statements by Manuel Marín, head of the Community of Madrid Fire Department, the explosion is suspected to have been caused by a buildup of gas, although the exact type or source of the leak has not yet been determined.
"There was an explosion due to an accumulation of gas. We still can't say what type of gas or where the leak occurred," Marín said.
The building where the bar-restaurant was located suffered significant structural damage, especially in the area between the ground floor and the first floor. As a safety measure, about ten families living in the building were evacuated immediately after the event.
Madrid's deputy mayor, Inmaculada Sanz, said that in the first moments the possibility of others being trapped under the rubble had been ruled out, but searches were intensified to make sure.
Spanish authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion and to understand whether there was negligence in the safety of the premises.
The event has caused shock in the local community, with many residents of the area saying they felt tremors and a terrible noise at the moment of the explosion.
