Slovenia, priest sues head of Serbian Orthodox Church for violence because he refused to give false testimony, prosecution files charges

The state prosecutor's office in Ljubljana, Slovenia, filed an indictment on January 12 against the archbishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Porfirije Perić, on charges of workplace abuse of a priest.
According to the official document of the Ljubljana District Prosecutor's Office, charges have been filed at the Ljubljana Municipal Court against two parties: Orthodox Porfirije Perić, who at the time was the metropolitan of the Zagreb-Ljubljana Metropolis of the Serbian Orthodox Church, as well as against the Serbian Orthodox Church - Church Unit in Ljubljana as a legal entity.
The charges are related to the claims of priest Zeljo Lubarda, who states that he was subject to constant mistreatment and psychological pressure, nova.rs writes.
He says he was systematically attacked at work because he refused to give false testimony to cover up allegations of financial abuse in the church's coffers.
Lubarda claims that the pressure and treatment against him was such that it caused him serious health problems and resulted in the loss of his income and home.
The prosecution's document refers to Articles 196 and 197 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Slovenia, which consider mistreatment in the workplace a criminal offense.
Currently, the case is at the stage where the court will verify the legality of the indictment and then set a date for the start of the trial.
