Spain drops plans to buy F-35 fighter jets

Spain has abandoned its plans to buy F-35 fighter jets, manufactured by American company Lockheed Martin.

The government had allocated 6.25 billion euros in its 2023 budget for the purchase of new fighter jets.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced that his country would increase defense spending by 2%, rejecting a 5% increase.

Sanchez's stance also sparked criticism from US President Donald Trump.
