Tensions in the Middle East, Donald Trump considers the possibility of joining

US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of the United States cooperating with Israel to strike Iranian nuclear targets, including the Fordow complex, international media report.

The discussion about this scenario is expected to take place in the Situation Room at the White House.

However, it is reported that there is not yet full agreement among the president's closest advisors on this possible step.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune expressed skepticism about a quick Senate vote to approve such action, saying President Trump is currently “acting within his authority” to take action.

Asked whether Congress should have a say in any potential attack on Iran, Thune said "we are getting ahead of the game," but did not rule out the possibility that Congress could be involved later in the decision-making process.

On the other hand, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham stressed that President Trump must make a decision "very soon" regarding aid to Israel. According to CNN reports, Graham personally urged the president in a phone call to take a comprehensive approach to stopping Iran's nuclear program, including the use of American military force.

“I told the president, ‘This is a historic moment. Four presidents have promised that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon. You can keep that promise,’ ” Graham said, recalling their conversation on Monday. “If bombs are needed, even bunker busters, let’s use them. If we have to fly side by side with Israel, let’s do it. The consequences of failure are tremendous.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Jim Risch, praised the president for "managing a very complicated situation," adding that Trump is constantly consulting with congressional experts and is being briefed regularly.

Senator Tommy Tuberville also stressed that Congress should have a role in any decision on military action against Iran. “We should have some say in this. Especially if the situation could lead to World War III, because the danger is real,” he said.
