UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation this Sunday evening, Downing Street announced.
"The leaders discussed the situation in the Middle East and reiterated the grave risk that Iran's nuclear program poses to international security," the statement said.
"They discussed actions taken by the US last night to reduce the threat and agreed that Iran should never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon."
The leaders reiterated "the need for Iran to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible" to progress towards a "durable solution," the statement added, with the parties agreeing to "remain in close contact" in the coming days.
