Trump nominates ally Bill Pulte to head National Intelligence, despite lack of security experience

US President Donald Trump has named Bill Pulte as acting director of the National Intelligence Agency (DNI), despite the fact that he has no previous experience in the field of national security.
Pulte will replace Tulsi Gabbard, who resigned in late May after reports of disagreements with the president over Iran policy.
The 38-year-old currently heads the Federal Housing Finance Agency and oversees the major mortgage institutions Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The White House says he will continue to hold those positions in parallel with his new post.
The appointment has drawn critical reactions from Democrats in Congress. Senator Mark Warner has described the choice as oriented towards creating a political narrative, while Senator Elizabeth Warren has raised concerns about the use of state institutions against political opponents.
Pulte has previously been at the center of debate over his involvement in investigations and accusations against several Democratic figures.
According to American rules, the Director of National Intelligence must have extensive experience in national security, a criterion that critics say is not met in this case.
However, his appointment comes at a time of high international tensions and significant changes in the US administration.
