The US military said it carried out 15 airstrikes on Friday against targets linked to Iran-backed Houthi fighters in Yemen.
Local residents said explosions were heard at military checkpoints and even at an airport.
Central Command, which leads US forces in the Middle East, said the targets struck included military weapons.
Houthi rebels have carried out almost 100 attacks on ships passing through the Red Sea since November.
They say they are doing this in support of the Palestinians in Israel's now year-long war in the Gaza Strip.
President Joe Biden's administration has largely acted in self-defense against Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, usually shooting down drones and missiles launched against cargo ships and US warships.
