The State Police has issued an official statement regarding the assassination attempt recorded this Thursday morning in the village of Nderfushas, Mirdita. Through this response, the authorities have confirmed that at around 09:00, 65-year-old Viktor Bardhi was found dead in his vehicle.
This citizen is suspected of being executed with a firearm inside the vehicle. After this incident, the perpetrator(s) are suspected of having fled and then burning the vehicle they had used in this crime.
The burnt vehicle suspected to have been used by the perpetrators was found burnt in the Nderfushas area. The investigation team is at the scene and is conducting the necessary expertise in order to fully shed light on this event and is working to identify the person or persons involved in this assassination.
The full circumstances and dynamics of the incident are still unknown, but it is suspected that this incident came about as a result of the revenge saga.
The Bardhi family, who also use the surname Marku, are well-known in the Mirdita area. Years ago, in September 2023, Martin Bardhi, the brother of Viktor Bardhi, was also the victim of an assassination attempt, who was killed today by a hail of bullets.
Meanwhile, in January 2025, the Bardhi family's nephew, Kristian Marku or Kristjan Bardhi, was also assassinated. At that time, several members of the Reçi family, with whom the Bardhi family has had a conflict for decades, were accompanied to the Police.
The feud between the two tribes, Reçi and Marku, dates back years. After the 90s, the Mirdita district, but mainly the city of Rrëshen, was dominated by two families. Reçi and Bardhi. Both families with reputations in this area. In 1995, a long-distance clash began between them. The Bardhi family started a conflict with Ilir Reçi. Ilir was considered one of the strongmen of Rrëshen at that time and was the cousin of Kastriot Reçi.
The last clash, he had with one of the members of the Bardhi family. Ilir Reçi gave him an “ultimatum” that none of his tribe who lived in Nëdërfushas should cross the Fan River and enter Rrëshen, which was considered their territory. This order of Ilir Reçi reached Pjetër Bardhi, at that time an army officer, who was on duty in Shkodër. He immediately headed towards Rrëshen and in the city center executed Ilir Reçi with his service weapon. Pjetër Bardhi was declared wanted and convicted in absentia for this murder, but he was never arrested and did not serve a single day in prison.
Since then, the two families "fell into silence" until the evening of March 26, 2023, when Saimir Reçi was shot with a firearm, but managed to escape the bullets. The police at the time said that the cause of the conflict that followed with the use of weapons was overtaking by car on the main road of the city. Saimir Reçi and Enrik Bardhi got out of the vehicles and physically clashed with each other in the middle of the city. Then, Enrik Bardhi went to the apartment and together with his father, Martin Bardhi, took a pistol firearm and fired at the vehicle in which Saimir Reçi was traveling. The perpetrators shot at close range at the driver's side of the BMW, but the armored vehicle saved the young man without being injured. Martin Bardhi was then arrested, while Enrik Bardhi and Kristian Bardhi were declared wanted.
Father and son were charged with attempted murder in collaboration. This event seems to have been followed by the murder of Martin Bardhi on September 26. As soon as he was released from prison, he was executed on the morning of September 26, 2023 with a barrage of bullets in the premises of his bar. For this reason, the Reçi family was the main suspect for the investigative group. Several family members were accompanied, although Sajmir Reçi himself was not found on the day of the incident.
