MEP Isabel Wiseler Lim demands the lifting of Belinda Balluku's immunity!

At today's meeting in Tirana of the 22nd meeting of the Albania-European Union Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee, MEP Isabel Wiseler Lim raised the concern over the non-waiver of Belinda Balluku's immunity.

Wiseler-Lima praised the work of SPAK and emphasized that this institution enjoys a high level of trust among Albanian citizens.

However, she raised questions about how the independence of justice institutions is guaranteed and whether justice reform will continue to be irreversible.

" When I was here in May as an election observer, you were campaigning, and now I see you here as colleagues and we can talk to each other as parliamentarians.  SPAK is actually one of the institutions that Albanians trust the most and has been successful within the justice reform. This is one of the forms that has been agreed upon by both sides.  However, independence is not immediately ensured, so requests for immunity, for example, are placed here and any investigation and their initiation will be placed here. And in the meantime, members of the Prosecutorial and Judicial Councils are elected by parliament. This is not an easy task, and the question is will the justice reform be irreversible? I firmly believe that the answer is yes ," she said.
