Cole Palmer misses England! Injury spoils striker's return to the Three Lions

Cole Palmer will miss England's upcoming Nations League matches.

The Chelsea striker is expected to withdraw from the squad due to a minor injury, thus missing out on his long-awaited return to the Three Lions.

The 24-year-old had returned to coach Thomas Tuchel's list after being left out of England's World Cup squad.

The decision to bring him back in had received particular attention, with Tuchel himself stating that Palmer had "something to prove" and that he needed to show on the pitch that he deserved the national team jersey.

The injury is already changing plans. Palmer is expected to miss the entire extended training camp, during which England will play four matches.

The Three Lions host world champions Spain at Wembley on September 26, before trips to the Czech Republic on September 29 and Croatia on October 3. England will conclude this series by hosting the Czechs again on October 6.

The fitness issue comes just days after Palmer played 90 minutes in Chelsea's 3-0 defeat to Brentford.

After a summer off due to missing the World Cup, the striker has started the season strongly. He has started six of Chelsea's seven matches, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

Palmer had recurring hip problems last season, and his last appearance for England came in March, in a 1-0 friendly defeat to Japan.
