What they couldn't take from the students in the auditorium, they are trying to take from them in the square!
After stealing their grades, turning them into a marketable commodity, after robbing them of their knowledge, replacing it with worthless diplomas, and after taking away their future, driving them towards a lightless tunnel outside the country, the lecturers finally remembered to protest, precisely when they found themselves in trouble. Now, as if to complete the collection of academic robberies, they want to rob young people of their votes and the right to protest. What they could not take from the students in the auditorium, they are trying to take from them in the square!
In an Albania that is being emptied of young people and where universities are being transformed into museums of diplomas and academic titles, pensioners and young people from Bangladesh seem to be seen as the saviors of enrollment statistics. It is enough to fill the lists, justify the existence of departments and ensure the salaries of pseudo-academics with inflated titles, but with intellectual contributions that often have to be sought under a microscope.
In fact, being a teacher has become a sport in itself, with the most diverse disciplines! For some, as sexual perverts, for others, as a profitable business where grades have their own price. There are also those who have pedagogy as a second, third job or simply an elegant decoration on their CV. Because, in the end, what does the student matter, when an academic title gives you prestige, salary and the opportunity to do public morality or politics?
After contributing to the collapse of the academic system, after remaining silent in the face of corruption, mediocrity and degradation of universities, and even in the face of criminal cases involving academic institutions, such as the case of the Agricultural University, the lecturers suddenly appeared to us as the saviors of the students! How touching this rebirth of academic consciousness is! Now, through the initiative called FORUM OF POLITICAL DIALOGUE, associated with the name of Ermal Hasimja, a question arises that cannot be avoided: does this forum aim at genuine support for the students, or at channeling their revolt towards the interests of traditional politics to which the latter belongs?
Given the allegations of Hasimja's closeness to Sali Berisha and the Democratic Party, the suspicion arises that, if the protest cannot be politically appropriated, it can at least be mitigated, controlled and, possibly, extinguished through dialogue under the table.
And here the issue is not simply with the individual Ermal Hasimja, but with the mindset that such attitudes represent. When Albanians are described as uncultured, students as uncouth, and the determination of the young is treated as the culture of the strong, it seems as if we are being given civics lessons from some Stockholm auditorium, not from the harsh Albanian reality where we live. According to this logic, the ideal citizen should be obedient, restrained and, preferably, protest without disturbing anyone!
Meanwhile, questions about the relationship between politics and its businesses, associations, public funds, and state activities demand transparency. Because it is very convenient to benefit from the system and then appear as a moderator of the revolt against it.
Therefore, beware of academic hypocrites and court intellectuals! Of those who award each other literary prizes, honorary titles and praise in circles of friends, to then climb to the podium and solemnly explain to us how mediocre Albanian society is. Beware of those who have fed this system for years, have been silent when they should have spoken and today recycle the ideas of others as great intellectual discoveries.
Because the most dangerous hypocrisy is not that of the politician who seeks power, but that of the pseudo-intellectual who, after having served power, seeks to sell himself to us as the moral conscience of the nation!
