Post Office Director at the Center of the 3 Million Euro Scandal Turns Out to Have Three Public Positions; Husband's Family Arrested in Property File
The alleged scandal of the theft of around 3 million euros at the Durrës Post Office has also highlighted the numerous public positions of the branch director Elisabeta Mataj, who, in addition to managing the Post Office, also appears to have held other functions in public institutions.
According to the documents, she was a member of the Durrës Port Authority Board (Decision no. 4), as well as a member of the Durrës Municipal Council (Decision no. 21), while simultaneously managing the Albanian Post branch in the city.
At the same time, her husband, Fetao Mataj, turns out to be the coordinator of the Socialist Party for the Porto Romano area in Durrës.
Another element that draws attention is that just a few days ago, as part of the operation to crack down on property abuses in Durrës, Arianit Mataj and Viktor Mataj, who are the brothers of Fetao Mataj, were arrested. According to the authorities, they are suspected of involvement in document forgery and property abuses.
Up to this stage, there is no official data linking the criminal proceedings against the husband's family members to the Post Office case. However, the fact that the same family circle includes a head of a state institution, a local political functionary and two people arrested in another sensational case has increased public interest in transparency and a full investigation by the competent authorities.
Investigations into the Durrës Post Office scandal continue, and it is expected that the justice authorities will shed light on the criminal and administrative responsibilities of each person involved.
