World Bank: The quality of higher education in Albania is low

The quality of higher education in Albania is low. “The World Bank ranks Albania among the countries with the lowest level of higher education in Europe and Central Asia.

The ECA region, which includes Albania, faces several challenges such as lack of funding and outdated curricula.

Among the causes of the poor quality of higher education are the lack of adequate infrastructure in universities and the influence of political and private interests on academic excellence. The World Bank recommends several solutions.

The World Bank report questions intergenerational progress, as the probability of children being more educated than their parents has been declining.

The poor quality of university education thus poses a risk to the region's long-term growth prospects.

"The World Bank estimates that unless urgent action is taken to improve the quality of education and better connect talent with the labor market, middle-income countries like Albania will not be able to achieve high-income status within one or two generations," reports journalist Halili.

Among the countries with the lowest quality in education are North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
