The panorama of marriages in Albania presents clear differences between regions, according to the most recent data collected on population and the number of marriages.

The Tirana region, as the largest urban and economic center of the country, records the highest number of marriages with a total of 4,835 cases. With a population of around 758,000 inhabitants, Tirana not only leads in absolute terms, but is also the main destination for young people who decide to build their lives in the capital, which directly affects the number of marriages.

On the other hand, the performance of marriages in relation to the population brings a completely different ranking. The Lezha region, with around 99 thousand inhabitants, registers 1038 marriages, bringing the level to 10.4 marriages per 1000 inhabitants, a figure that positions it as the most active region in this regard in the entire country.

High figures are also recorded by the regions of Durrës and Shkodra, which are at the top after Lezha in terms of the ratio of marriages to population, with around 8.2 marriages per 1,000 inhabitants, respectively. Fier and Dibra follow the list with a slightly lower average, but still above many other regions of the country.

In contrast, several other regions face lower marriage rates. Berat stands at the bottom of the list with only 5.77 marriages per 1,000 inhabitants, while Korça and Tirana each score 6.3. Although Tirana is a record in absolute numbers, its demographic dynamics characterized by continuous migration flows, higher professional competition, a busy pace of life and a higher average age lead to a lower ratio of marriages to population.

Overall, the number of marriages has declined significantly in recent years, reflecting profound demographic and social changes. Factors such as youth emigration, economic insecurity, new priorities of younger generations, and postponement of family formation have directly influenced the decrease in the number of marriages across the country.
