In August 2025, there were 159 road accidents, of which 229 people were injured. According to these data, compared to the previous month, there are about 15 percent fewer accidents, while the highest number of causes are drivers in the 45 and 59-year-old age group.
The most frequent incidents are on Mondays and between 7 p.m. and midnight. In only 14 cases were pedestrians the cause, while in the other 145 cases drivers were the cause.
Tirana, where almost a third of the population is concentrated, records the most events, while Lezha ranks second, followed by Vlora.
The INSTAT report states that over the course of 8 months, in 16 cases the perpetrators left the scene of the accident, while 197 people involved in accidents from January to August were under the age of 24.
However, the statistical institute reports that there is a decrease in the number of road accidents, as well as injuries and deaths.
To continue with road measures, a national strategy has been proposed that requires the digitization of accident mapping data.
It also draws attention to the need for patience when crossing the road, but also to the lack of respect for traffic signals by cyclists, motorcycle drivers, and scooter users.
