Positive economic outlook, optimism and challenges emerging from Standard&Poor's assessment

The international credit agency Standard&Poor's has increased the rating for the Albanian economy for the first time since 2016.
Now our country is considered with a positive perspective, after the analysis of a number of indicators, where among the most important ones is the reduction of public debt and the increase of budget revenues.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the assessment places Albania among the countries with sound public finances
"This evaluation after almost 7 years is a step towards the group of countries that are considered with sound public finances. It is an assessment of the country's economic performance, with economic growth that has remained stable, while inflation turned into a downward trend in a relatively short time. Foreign investments increased by 670 million euros, while tourism had an extraordinary expansion", said the Minister of Finance Ervin Mete.
According to experts, even after the reassessment, our economy remains behind compared to the countries of the region. According to them, public debt and foreign investments, two key indicators in this revaluation, should be treated carefully in the future.
"Albania in relation to the two regional economies of Macedonia and Albania is one step below, showing an impasse as far as the decisions of foreign investors are concerned. Most of the foreign investments are investments of individuals and businesses that are based on real estate, in fact Albania needs investments in industry and technology and to expand the base of exports. We have seen that the debt decreases and then new loans are taken, while we have not yet seen that welfare increases", said the economic expert Eduart Gjokutaj.
