How much is the book market worth in Albania?

From November 15 to 19, the tradition of the book fair will return to the capital, where different publishing houses have the opportunity to bring books by different authors closer to the readers. This fair, which will take place in the premises of the Palace of Congresses, is also its 26th edition, since the first book fair held in 1998.

Based on this, "Scan Intel" has returned to the market of publishing houses to see how the progress has been and how the income has changed in the span of one year. The analysis will focus on the performance of this market for 2022, to see how much this market is worth and which of the publishing houses has performed better in terms of annual turnover, i.e. book sales throughout the year.

In the analysis, 22 publishing houses have been taken which have filed their financial statements for the year 2022, and also this time "Scan Intel" has focused mainly on the income of these houses from the activity of selling books. The vast majority of publishing houses passed the filter, but some of them are not part of the figures as they have not submitted their financial statements for the last year. According to the data for 2022, the increase in annual turnover is calculated at 2.2%, compared to 2021.

From the analysis of the financial statements filed in the "National Business Center", this market during 2022 has a total turnover of about 1.74 billion, or about 16.7 million euros, while a year ago it was calculated at approximately 1.70 billion lek.

For the year 2022, the publishing house "Botime Pegi" is ranked first in terms of the annual turnover indicator with 291 million lek income from book sales, but compared to 2021 there is a decrease in turnover by about 13%. The publishing house "Albas" is ranked second with 248 million ALL in revenue for 2022, followed by "Mediaprint" and "Ideart" with 218 million and 180 million ALL, respectively.

If we focus on the annual change in income, we see that the publishing house "Minerva" and "UET" have recorded the highest increase in income in 2022. From the data, it can be seen that the houses that publish have the highest turnover mostly school items.
