Elton Zefi, a 32-year-old who lives and works in the photovoltaic energy sector in Padua, has become the protagonist of an extraordinary act of courage and humanity.

His story is a powerful reminder that there are still people who act without hesitation to save a life.

On his birthday, November 20, Elton was going to a work meeting with a colleague when they saw a group of people gathered on the banks of the Battaglia Canal, in Padua.

A man had ended up with his car in the canal and was trapped inside, risking drowning.

Elton did what no one else in the audience had the courage to do. He took off his pants and jacket and stepped into the icy waters of the canal.

With the help of another person, they first tried to break the car's windshield, then tried to open the roof, but to no avail.

The rest he told himself: "I had cramps in my legs and the cold was making me numb. I was thinking of giving up. I tried one more time, with all the strength I had left, and I managed to get him out of the car. Then I carried him to shore, safe and alive."

Only then did Elton realize that the man he had just saved was entrepreneur Giuseppe Salvalajo, his former employer. He, moved by what had happened, immediately recognized him and thanked him.

The man, elderly and shaken, is only alive thanks to this extraordinary gesture of courage and altruism on the part of this young man and the person who helped him.
