IT survey: Who are the 10 most corrupt countries in the world

The non-governmental organization Transparency International, based in Germany, defines corruption as "abuse of entrusted power for private gain". The organization, which compiles the country-focused Corruption Perceptions Index, also notes that corruption is fueling a global crisis in democracy.
Russia is seen as the most corrupt country in the world, according to the US News Best Countries 2022 ranking, a perception-based analysis of 85 countries drawn from a recent survey of more than 17,000 people worldwide. In the survey, the respondents determined which countries they associate with the term "corrupt", the definition of which was left open to their interpretation. These perceptions influence U.S. News' ranking of countries considered open for business, as well as overall rankings of the best countries and lists of the best places to invest, the best places to locate a company and more transparent countries.
The perception of Russia as the most corrupt country marks a drop from number 5 on this list in 2021, when Iraq held the top spot. Also in 2022, the United States ranks 23rd among countries seen as least corrupt, down from 24th last year.
