However, for small and developing countries like Albania, this decision could have significant economic consequences, making competition more difficult and increasing the cost of products for consumers.
Albania, a country that has developed an increasingly strong trade relationship with the United States over the past decades, now faces a new test. This decision by the Trump administration, which aims to increase protection for American production, could significantly increase the costs for many Albanian products exported to the United States.
The medicinal and aromatic plants sector, which represents a significant portion of Albanian exports, along with the textile industry, minerals and fuels, are among the most affected by these tariffs.
According to recent data, Albania exported goods worth $65 million to the US in 2024 alone, while these tariffs will directly impact the increase in costs and hinder the competitiveness of these products in the US market.
The impact of these tariffs will not only affect Albania's economy, but also have major consequences for employment and key sectors of the economy that are dependent on exports.
The medicinal plant sector, which has a large share in exports and employs thousands of people in rural areas, is particularly sensitive to these changes.
Some economic experts have emphasized that, in addition to the direct impact, these tariffs could bring an uncertain climate for businesses and create great difficulties in reaching favorable agreements with international partners.

Bimët medicinale dhe aromatike: Ky sektor, që është një nga më të rëndësishmit për Shqipërinë, eksporton produkte të natyrshme dhe bio për përdorim mjekësor. SHBA-ja është një nga tregjet më të mëdha për këto produkte, me rreth 20,000 persona të punësuar në industrinë e bimëve medicinale. Ekspertët paralajmërojnë se tarifa mund të rrisë çmimet e këtyre produkteve dhe ta bëjë tregun amerikan më të papërshtatshëm për eksportuesit shqiptarë.
Mineralet dhe lëndët djegëse: Shqipëria eksporton minerale dhe materiale të tjera, përfshirë naftë dhe minerale metalike, në SHBA. Kostoja shtesë për shkak të tarifave mund të ketë ndikim në fitimet e kompanive dhe mund të rrisë çmimet për konsumatorët amerikanë.

Çdo ngadalësim ekonomik në BE, si pasojë e rritjes së çmimeve ose rënies së kërkesës, mund të reflektohet në ekonominë shqiptare, duke shkaktuar gjithashtu një ngadalësim të eksporteve dhe një ndikim në punësim.
Reagimi i ekspertëve dhe institucioneve ndërkombëtare
Ekspertët e ekonomisë dhe analistët ndërkombëtarë janë të shqetësuar se politika e Trump mund të shkaktojë një rritje të çmimeve për konsumatorët shqiptarë dhe të ketë pasoja të rënda për eksportet shqiptare.
"Këto tarifa mund të bëjnë që produkteve shqiptare t’u rriten kostot dhe të humbasin konkurrueshmërinë e tregjeve amerikane dhe ndërkombëtare," thotë Ilir Gjergji, ekonomist i njohur në Tiranë.
Po ashtu, Organizata Botërore e Tregtisë (OBT) ka shprehur shqetësimin për ndikimet e mundshme që këto tarifa mund të kenë në rendin e tregtisë ndërkombëtare. Ajo ka paralajmëruar se politikat proteksioniste mund të çojnë në rritjen e tensioneve ekonomike dhe një mundësi të re për luftëra tregtare që do të prekin të gjitha ekonomitë globale, përfshirë atë shqiptare.
Masat e mundshme nga Shqipëria dhe perspektivat për të ardhmen
Përveç ndikimit të drejtpërdrejtë të tarifave, Shqipëria mund të përballet me sfida të tjera ekonomike si rezultat i këtyre masave. Ekspertët sugjerojnë që bizneset shqiptare të kërkojnë mundësi të reja për diversifikimin e tregjeve të eksportit, me fokus te vendet e Lindjes së Mesme dhe Azi. Po ashtu, është e domosdoshme që qeveria shqiptare të mbështesë ndërmarrjet e vogla dhe të mesme në përballimin e pasojave nga këto tarifa.
In this context, the Albanian Chambers of Commerce have requested a rapid response from state authorities to provide fiscal support and create opportunities for exporters to diversify their trade partners.
Data shows that Albania has the potential to increase exports to other markets, but these opportunities cannot be exploited without proper support.
The new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration are a major challenge for the Albanian economy, affecting important export sectors and creating uncertainty in international markets. Albania must react quickly and take measures to mitigate the impact of these tariffs, as well as focus on diversifying its markets and products. With a proper strategy, Albania can minimize potential damage and maintain a stable position in international markets.
