Vrap treasure, the most valuable ever found in Albania

The treasure of Vrap is probably the most valuable ever found in Albania.
It was discovered in 1901 in the village of Vrap in Tirana, by brothers Murat and Ali Biceri and brothers Met and Mustafa Mema in the field of the latter.
It is thought that the treasure belongs to the 6th century and that it was the property of the Avars, known as Bulgarian-Slavs, who conquered the Roman provinces after the fall of the Roman Empire and the birth of the Byzantine Empire.
The treasure consists of 41 objects, 35 of gold and 6 of silver, such as cups, lids, quadrilateral belt buckles, belt tabs.
Their total weight is 6.9 kg: 5.5 kg of gold objects and 1.4 kg. silver. Most of the items found are in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, bequeathed by John Pierpont Morgan.
The well-known banker had bought the treasure in the years 1902-1907 with the mediation of the Austrian consul in Durrës, Remi von Kuatkovski.
Of the treasure, only one gold cup went to the Istanbul Archaeological Museum and one gold bowl to the Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore.
The treasure was studied by the German archaeologist Joachim Werner, who came to Albania, visited the village of Vrap on July 7, 1982, and in 1989 published the book "The Treasure of Vrap in Albania" in Vienna. (Adi Darsi)
