The missing apology to Basha and the wickedness of Berisha's public discourse!

This is perhaps the sentence that best summarizes what has happened in the Democratic Party over the past few years.
A few months ago I wrote that Sali Berisha knows very well that Lulzim Basha does not trust anyone. This is also accepted by people close to him, away from the cameras and public rhetoric. But Berisha cannot exist politically without building an enemy.
This has been his political philosophy over the years: failures do not stem from oneself, but always from someone else's betrayal. As the French philosopher Rene Girard wrote, societies often create a "scapegoat" onto which they project all their faults. In Albanian politics, for Berisha, this role was reserved for Lulzim Basha.
Lulzim Basha is known for his civic nature. In a toxic environment like Albanian politics and media, citizenship is often perceived as weakness. This makes it easy to slander, attack, label or mock. This was also fueled by Edi Rama's propaganda machine, which persistently built the image of a man who "did nothing" and was "sleepy". In the end, the opponent's propaganda and the propaganda of part of the opposition united around the same objective.
Yesterday, in an interview with his colleague Andrea Danglli, Sali Berisha returned to the accusations against Basha. But instead of politics, the public heard rumors. Instead of the alternative, they heard stories about "backstabbing", about non grata and about Basha's evil.
However, the real questions remained unanswered.
How is it possible that the one who presents Edi Rama as the biggest political opponent results today with about 300 thousand votes less than Lulzim Basha in the 2021 elections?!
How is it possible that the Democratic Party continues to remain in the same crisis, without any reflection? What are his positions on SPAK and Klodian Braho?
How is it possible that former MPs and his officials are joining Edi Rama every day?
How is it possible that he can't overthrow Edi Rama?
How is it possible that he can't unite the right?
And above all, how is it explained that, even after he claims that he was removed from non grata status by the US, no ambassador from Albania's allied countries visits his office?
These are not personal questions, but political questions. In a democracy, answering political questions cannot be replaced by personal attacks or confessions of betrayal. Citizens and democrats expect reflection, responsibility and vision, not a constant return to past conflicts.
Berisha set up an entire political and media structure to present Basha as Rama's collaborator. Ilir Meta's political peddlers were also present, who, in every television studio, repeated the same accusation: "Basha is a sellout."
But time is always stronger than propaganda.
One by one, many of those who accused Basha of collaborating with Rama ended up in power themselves. Former MP Ferdinand Xhaferraj even publicly declared that Edi Rama himself gave Berisha the seal of the Democratic Party.
As if this were not enough, today it is openly said that the Democratic Party has turned into an arena where interests linked to power influence, with building permits, tenders and clientelism. So Edi Rama has bought Sali Berisha and the people close to him through clearing. Names like Erion Veliaj or Belinda Balluku are mentioned more and more often, as part of the analysis of informal influences within the opposition. This is one of the greatest political tragedies of the Albanian transition: An opposition that no longer fights against power, but consumes the power struggles within itself.
As Hannah Arendt wrote, "The political lie aims not only to deceive, but to create a reality where no one knows what the truth is anymore."
This is precisely what the multi-year campaign against Basha produced: A discourse where labels replaced arguments and slander replaced debate. A campaign that was initiated by Edi Rama and aided by Meta and Berisha, to create a vicious discourse against Basha's figure.
Today, after all this history, a moral obligation remains. For the state of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha owes the Democrats a reflection and an apology. Equally, those who for years labeled Lulzim Basha as a "sellout", without providing any evidence, owe him a public apology.
Because, in the end, as Socrates said: "A lie may win applause for a moment, but only the truth survives time."
And this truth will bring other good news that will shake up the traditional political class and give everyone what they deserve.
