The debate regarding the $6 million that Berisha's supporters are supposed to spend on lobbying in the US has once again revealed the principled and moral collapse of this political current that has long reduced the DP to the political shield of the Berisha family. There are two signs of this collapse: first, the idea that any dirt is justifiable to overthrow Edi Rama and second, the idea that Rama will be overthrown in Washington and not in Tirana.
The idea that in an electoral campaign and in politics the opposition can use corruption to overthrow a corrupt government, which is now being openly articulated by the Bershimzi, erases any political norm, principle, or morality.
The Berisha opposition is turning into a mirror of the corrupt filth of the government, which it itself denounces. Therefore, the only political competition that the DP wins against the SP today is to offer a political standard even lower than that of the government.
If the SP is reduced to Prime Minister Rama, the DP is privatized by the Berisha family. If the Rama government was yesterday implicated in the McGonigal case where 225 thousand dollars were rumored, Berishaism is involved in a lobbying of 6 million dollars, which is still unknown where it came from and where it will end up.
If yesterday Rama soiled Berisha with the Biden administration, today Berisha will be cleansed with Trump, who is in fact the most corrupt president the Americans have ever elected. Berisha's ability to lower the bar of political morality in the face of Rama's government is both impressive and beneficial to the Rama government.
The Berishe reader will tell me that all this is justifiable because this is the only way to overthrow the Rama dictatorship. A bullet is a bullet, corruption is fought with corruption. Rama cannot be overthrown democratically in Tirana but only by lobbying in Washington.
And here we come to the political collapse of the DP, which is in fact a product of its moral collapse. The moment the DP is reduced to the troubles of the Berisha family, the main battles of the DP are fought in Washington and not in Tirana.
It is an opposition whose main goal is not to increase votes but to clear the Berisha family of accusations of corruption and obstruction of democracy. Therefore, its political and financial battle is much more directed from Washington than from Tirana and Albania where elections are actually won and lost.
Between increasing the vote and cleansing the Berisha family, the DP's priority is the latter. There is no more significant example than the alignment of sovereign Berishism with Trumpism, which is the most dangerous political current for Albanian national interests in the history of American politics.
The DP's alignment with Trump does not increase its votes or popularity, either in Albania or in Kosovo. Even though there are many Albanians in the US who support Trump, Albanians in Albania are clear that Trump's policies are a major danger to the Albanian cause.
Trump's attacks on NATO, on the European Union, his alliance with Putin and Serbia, his crackdown on Ukraine, his anti-Islamic rhetoric, and his support for Christian fundamentalism are all policies that endanger the existence of the Albanian nation. They are easily understood and perceived by the majority of Albanians in Albania and Kosovo.
And yet, between Trump and the Albanian electorate, the DP has chosen Trump. Between spending on the electoral campaign in Tirana and lobbying in Washington, the DP has chosen Washington.
The biggest achievements of the DP campaign are the arrival of LaCivita or a $6 million lobbying contract in Washington, which is trumpeted by Berisheism as a fatal blow to the socialist government, as if the elections were being held in the US and not in Albania.
