Berishist Assembly: Neither spirit, nor numbers!
The last Berishist assembly on December 2 passed almost in silence as if to indicate the political fate that seems to await the movement itself. The reason is because not only the spirit was missing but also the numbers. This was clearly reflected in the desperate call of Luciano Bocci "don't count us but look at the ideals we have".

The question is: which ideals?

Today Berishism is just numbers, because it does not represent any political ideal outside the narrow interests of its leader and his family. The victory of Foltores over the anti-Berishist spirit did not come from the superior ideals of Berishism, but from numerical supremacy. No one in the PD approached the pulpit for the anti-American and "democratic" ideals, or for the future that Berishmism offered, but for the numbers it had.

A year ago it was more clear that Berisha had much more support than Basha. It is enough to compare the Assembly of Berisha in Airalbania on December 11, 2022 with the Assembly of Basha at the Palace of Congresses on December 18 of the same year. This caused the debate between anti-Berishism and Berishism to be reduced to numbers and won by the latter.

This numerical supremacy hid the absence of any kind of spirit, coherence or political ideal within Berishism, in stark contrast to the anti-Berishism spirit. The Berishist Assembly in Airalbania in 2022 was simply a denunciation forum, without any political or ideological analysis. It was a giant loudspeaker for Berisha. The loud noise it produced hid quite well the lack of breath in the leftist movement.

Meanwhile, the official DP assembly on December 18, 2022 was one of the few political forums of the Albanian transition where the breath was flowing from the political debate to the analysis of the loss of the 2021 elections and the open criticism of the chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulëzim Basha. So if Berishism had the numbers, anti-Berishism had the spirit and political ideals. It was a hopeful attempt that the party's model of reducing the party to the authoritarian leader and his narrow interests could be overcome to realize the democratic ideals of December.

Today, when anti-Berishism in PD has lost the battle to Berishism (although not necessarily the war), what remains are only the breathless numbers. This explains the senseless and illogical political movements of various factions that carry groups of MPs from time to time, as if they were buckets of water.

The problem is that numbers in politics are held either by spirit or by power. It is normally the position that uses most power to maintain numbers and the opposition that relies mainly on spirit. Therefore, a breathless opposition will sooner or later die even in numbers. It is this process that we saw at the last Berishist assembly in the Palace of Congresses.

We are dealing with the continuous shrinking of a political movement that, in the absence of a political spirit or ideal, maintains its numbers only through the channeling of the opposition leader against the power and internal enemies, sometimes Pashko, sometimes Hajdari, sometimes Selami, sometimes Pollo, sometimes Tritan Shehu, sometimes Basha, sometimes Alibeaj and recently Bardhi.

But the denunciation of the internal enemy and the socialist government cannot endlessly hide the lack of spirit. Without the spirit, the numbers will shrink continuously, highlighting even more the lack of political ideals. In the last Berishist assembly, the lack of numbers revealed the lack of spirit that can no longer be hidden behind the crowds cheering Berisha and denouncing Basha as Rama's tool.

It was a very big gap that even the leader's family could not fill. On the contrary, the promotion of "sons as descendants of fathers" also erases the distant memory of the anti-elitist and anti-communist discourse that constitutes the real ideological basis of Berishism. If the son-in-law, the son and the daughter of the boss take an increasingly primary role within the party movement, how can the latter denounce the socialists in power as "sons of the fathers"?
