Why the DP cannot have a candidate from civil society or apolitical

On the surface, the idea of an apolitical candidate sounds refreshing for a society tired of worn-out politicians and a divided opposition. But this is a comfortable illusion that serves the current government more than the citizens who demand change. Because politics is not an algorithm where 1+1 makes two. It is not even a financial balance sheet, where the future of a country is decided through a “cold calculation”. Politics is a clash of visions, a confrontation of values, and most of all, representation. And in this battle, a so-called “apolitical” figure is always a miscalculation in times of crisis.
Let's be clear: not everyone who has a mandate as an MP is automatically a political leader, and not every person who knows how to articulate opinions in the media is necessarily worthy of being a representative of the opposition, so in short, anyone who talks about politics cannot be a politician. A politician is not a technical figure, but a symbol of unity and mobilization. A politician inspires not only with words, but with life, with history, with roots and with clear ideological direction. And especially for the Albanian right, which has lost its way between empty pragmatism and "modern developments", it is vital to bring back a figure who embodies conservative values: family, work, faith, dignity, a small state and the free individual.
The opposition cannot be represented by a figure who is “neither on one side nor the other”. Because this “neutrality” is, in essence, political surrender. And in Albania, this claim to neutrality is often a real cover for direct ties to power. Historical and political time has shown that neutrality is always on the side of the government or the strongest. We have seen for years how many civil society figures are in fact secret spokesmen for power – benefiting from public funds, controlled grants and influential positions through a hypocritical game. To claim that within this circle a candidate can be found who will represent the right is to admit that the right no longer has a compass and does not even want to reflect.
This is the moment when the opposition, and especially the Democratic Party, must choose between two paths: to continue with political experiments that have not brought them any victories for a decade, or to return to its identity. A candidate representing the right is not simply a public figure without a party, but a man with an attitude, with a personal history of success, with pure family roots and with a life that speaks for itself.
The opposition needs a credible figure, not a pretty name on a poster. It needs someone who will not only get votes, but also give voice to those who feel voiceless. It needs a role model, not an administrator. Above all, it no longer has the luxury of experimenting with “independents,” who are essentially more dependent than ever.
