"I am responsible for everything!" Minister of

French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez has admitted that police lost control in several cities during the October 17 protests, which were accompanied by violence and looting.

In an interview with France Inter radio on Monday, Nuñez said he had submitted his resignation to the French president, who rejected it. The minister said he felt responsible for the events and admitted to a lack of foresight of the situation.

"I submitted my resignation because I am responsible for everything that is happening. Yes, there was a loss of control in some cities and a lack of foresight," the Interior Minister admitted this morning on France Inter.

" The security measures we took in the country were, in some places, disproportionate to the number of participants and demonstrators in normal marches, but also to the number of vandals, looters and far-left activists who caused the marches to degenerate," he continued. "I submitted my resignation to the President of the Republic for these reasons. I was a senior civil servant; I have a sense of the public interest. And given the damage that was done, it was right for me to resign."

He said that security measures in some areas were not proportionate to the number of protesters and people who caused the unrest.
