Bomb threats to Albanian institutions, Police: Email was sent from an address in Saudi Arabia

The police have reacted to the threatening electronic message that arrived at several institutions in Albania, claiming that explosives had been placed and warning of terrorist acts.

According to the official announcement, preliminary verifications show that the email was sent from an email address belonging to an educational institution in Saudi Arabia.

Authorities say that the way the message was sent bears similarities to previous cases, when similar threats were sent from compromised email addresses belonging to students at educational institutions abroad.

The threatening message was sent to several addresses of state institutions, including the Prime Minister's Office, ministries, justice institutions and the Bank of Albania. After receiving it, security measures were taken at the Fier Court and Prosecutor's Office, including the evacuation of the premises.

The State Police announces that the relevant structures are continuing verifications and investigative actions to determine the origin and authenticity of the message, as well as to fully clarify the circumstances of the case.
