The elites are silent, Rama bargains, Albanians pay!
By Indrit Gjizeli
What is the force that makes our elite silent whenever Albania needs it, whenever governments show that they have lost the compass to be accountable and hold themselves responsible?
Can elites agree that a government should label those who challenge it as ignorant?
Often, in world history, the silence of elites has paved the way for the establishment of bloody systems, such as communism, fascism, and Nazism, producing victims and incalculable damage to the common future.
Young people in the square are more likely to be ignored than those without school. They see how their parents are not at home at all because they have to work two jobs to maintain a house, often with unaffordable rent and with food more expensive than in most European countries, which have a much better standard of living than Albania.
The Prime Minister of a country can never insult a group of people, but must have the humility to understand them, to listen to them even when they do not put their demands in writing.
It is even more insulting to go to the police at the height of the confrontation and tell them that you will reward them. This practice is only done by neighborhood bosses, leaders of criminal groups, who increase the reward for their protectors at a time when their power is threatened. This encouragement to defend it in front of the citizens is an insult to anyone who still wants to see how the prime minister or other elected officials use wisdom instead of force.
Undoubtedly, violence against police, businesses, and institutions is not a solution. But encouraging police to engage in conflict with citizens is even more despicable than what young people are doing.
There is nothing to be proud of when protesters hit a police officer, especially when they continue the violence while he is defenseless. There is nothing to be proud of when shops are broken into. But there is much to be saddened by when you see the prime minister who megalomaniacally declares that he alone is the savior, that without him we cannot make a step. A diabolical claim, like during the dictatorship - If Enver dies, there is no life, no one comes!
Rama becomes even more ridiculous when he swears by over 800,000 votes, which were on voting day, but which are no guarantee for a prime minister who has violated everything by handing over to Gysi, Ermal Beqiri, or all the strongmen.
