Fevziu: Unbelievable, I'm in the Albanian mosque in Damascus, the 77-year-old introduced me to his grandson!
"Unbelievable! I'm in the Albanian mosque, in the Albanian neighborhood in Damascus, Syria," writes journalist Blendi Fevziu alongside a video posted on his social network "Instagram."
While surrounded by Albanians in the middle of Syria, Fevziu has a brief conversation with one of the residents of the area, Abdullah.
The latter, 77 years old, speaks in pure Albanian, his native language, as he introduces his grandson to the journalist, referring to him with the words: " The son of my uncle."
Amazed, Fevziu tells us that Abdullah's father came to Damascus at the age of 3 and lived to be 103. However, he preserved the Albanian language, which he passed on to his son.
Blendi Fevziu: I'm in the Arnaut mosque, in the Albanian mosque in the Albanian neighborhood in Damascus. Even this guy here, they're all Albanians. Not all of them speak Albanian.
Abdullah: The son of the deceased. The grandson.
Blendi Fevziu: Is your name Abullah?
Blendi Fevziu: Abdullah has been here for 77 years, he was born here. His father was 3 years old and lived to be 103. Imagine. Everyone you see is Albanian and this is the Albanian mosque built by Albanians in the middle of Damascus, an Albanian neighborhood and an Albanian mosque. I came today. They are praying, I found them here.
