Trial in The Hague, President Osmani: Kosovo's independence is the result of the sacrifice of the people and the KLA

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has emphasized that Kosovo's independence is the result of the will of the people and a centuries-old sacrifice, recalling the role of the Kosovo Liberation Army and the numerous victims during the war.

"Kosovo's independence was the will of the people of Kosovo. It was a centuries-old sacrifice, for which thousands of martyrs and innocent civilians gave their lives, and for which the Kosovo Liberation Army fought heroically," Osmani wrote in a Facebook post.

She has also denounced the crimes committed by Serbia during the war, describing them as genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. According to the president, Serbia's strategy aimed at the extermination of the Albanian people, including the murder and massacre of thousands of children, women and men, the rape of thousands of people, the destruction of hundreds of thousands of homes, the expulsion of over 80% of citizens from their homes and ethnic cleansing.

Osmani criticized efforts to equate the KLA war with crimes committed by Serbia, emphasizing that these attempts harm justice and undermine long-term peace.

"Any attempt to equate the KLA's liberation war with the actions of the genocidal Serbian aggressor undermines faith in justice and severely damages long-term peace," she stressed.

In conclusion, President Osmani reiterated the demand for justice and the importance of preserving historical truth:

"Kosovo and its citizens demand justice. The KLA's war was just and pure. This truth cannot be changed by efforts to rewrite history and to invalidate the struggle of the people of Kosovo for freedom," Osmani concluded.
