The new Prefect of Tirana starts work/ Shkëlqim Hajdari: First task,

This Monday, February 9th, was Shkelqim Hajdari's first day on the job. After a career as an inspector general, Hajdari will assume the role of prefect of Tirana.

His presentation was made by Interior Minister Albana Koçiu, in the presence of former prefect Afrim Qendro and other representatives of the Tirana district. For Shkëlqim Hajdari, this may be his last task in his long career of 35 years, but the most beloved for him in the service of the citizens of the Tirana district.

"For me, this is not just a state function, but a mission that is directly related to the people, their lives and the future of this region. Tirana is my birthplace, memory and soul. I will be the prefect of everyone, of the natives of Tirana and of every other citizen who lives in this metropolis without political, religious or social differences, because Tirana is strong only when its citizens are united. In exercising this duty, the law will be my only compass ," said Hajdari.

The role of the prefect is to act as a bridge connecting and implementing laws from the central to the local government. Therefore, meetings with mayors are the first task that Hajdari says he will carry out.

"I will meet with all the mayors, all the heads of central institutions and create a clearer idea of what the priorities will be and how they will be implemented step by step. This is how I am used to working. I do not create priorities without knowing the situation and without touching it with my own hands," he added.

Since January of this year, a new draft law for the prefect of the district has been submitted for public consultation, where according to the Minister of Internal Affairs Albana Koçiu, this draft law strengthens the role of the prefect in public security, territorial protection and the management of civil emergencies.
