In Rome, the Good Friday "Way of the Cross" ceremony for Catholics was held in the premises of the Colosseum.
Pope Leo XIV is expected to carry the wooden cross during the 14 stations of the ceremony.
This is the first time this has happened in the last sixty-one years.
Pope Benedict and Pope John Paul II had carried the Cross only at the first and last stations of the ceremony, while Pope Francis, in recent years, followed the "Via Crucis" from the Vatican due to health problems.
