Middle East conflict, media: Iran rejects US proposal for 48-hour ceasefire, negotiations between regional countries fail

Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency reported that Iran has rejected a United States proposal for a 48-hour ceasefire, citing an unidentified source.
Tehran is reportedly not ready to meet with US officials in Islamabad in the coming days. The Iranian Foreign Minister had earlier stated that the country would only accept a permanent end to the war and not a temporary ceasefire.
Efforts by regional countries, including Pakistan, to mediate a ceasefire between the US and Iran have failed, as Tehran considers US demands unacceptable.
Abbas Araghchi, one of the most senior figures in Iranian diplomacy, said Tehran has yet to respond to the 15-point peace proposal sent by the US a week ago.
For his part, former US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran had requested a ceasefire, but Tehran called this claim false and baseless, increasing tensions between the two countries.
