Drafted the plan for the declaration of independence of Kosovo, Martti Ahtisaari passes away

The former president of Finland, Martti Ahtisaari, has died at the age of 86 in Helsinki, the Finnish Presidency announced.
Ahtisaari has been the special envoy of the United Nations for Kosovo, in charge of organizing the negotiations of the Kosovo status process. Based on the plan he drew up, Kosovo's independence was also announced on February 17, 2008.
He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008 because of his contribution to conflicts in Indonesia, Namibia or Northern Ireland.
Ahtisaari had withdrawn publicly and politically in 2021, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
He was the president of Finland from 1994 to 2000./ REL
