LVV awaits names from the opposition, Konjufca withdraws from the presidential race
Prime Minister Albin Kurti says he is in communication with the leaders of the opposition parties to find a solution to the presidential issue, but there are still no results. “We are in communication with the leaders of the opposition parties, when there are results, we will let you know.” Kurti's deputy and presidential candidate, Glauk Konjufca, expressed his willingness to withdraw from the race if the opposition parties propose a name that could be acceptable to the Vetëvendosje Movement.
"The moment the opposition finds a joint president and proposes it to us, and this does not mean that it was a proposal of the entire opposition, but at least of two of the political parties, I think I would be very happy to withdraw my candidacy. But, if this does not happen and the candidacy is withdrawn, it does not solve the problem. That is the issue," said Konjufca. He added that the PDK's proposal for an agreement cannot be made if they do not bring up the names for discussion. According to him, there are many names in this party that are unacceptable to them. According to him, the opposition is calculating for elections because they claim that former president Vjosa Osmani could damage Vetëvendosje.
"The opposition wants to include President Osmani as a new element in our political scene, since they calculate that this would probably reduce the percentage of the Vetëvendosje Movement. Since this element has been in the race, there have been no sincere proposals. This is more of an opposition calculation for the elections." Asked if Osmani would really harm Vetëvendosje, Konjufca said that the former president has not aligned herself with the camp against the majority and that they are open to cooperation with her.
"I don't know, I can't prejudge. President Osmani has not shown her political orientation that is against Vetëvendosje. She has only said that she will engage in politics. But I think that our paths will meet again," continued Konjufca. The Kosovo chief diplomat added that if the will of the opposition is to go to the elections, then they have no way to prevent it.
