Attacked KFOR soldiers in Zvecan, Kosovo Special Prosecution files indictment against one person

The Kosovo Special Prosecution Office filed an indictment on Friday against a person suspected of participating in the attack against members of KFOR and the Kosovo Police in Zvecan, in 2023.
In a media release, the Prosecution identified the suspect only as LM, and said he is charged with the criminal offenses of assault on an official person and participation in a crowd committing a criminal offense and hooliganism.
"The defendant LM is accused of having attacked and seriously threatened soldiers of the KFOR peacekeeping mission on May 29, 2023, in Zvečan, in complicity with other defendants, through the use of violence," the announcement states.
The indictment states that the violence caused significant material damage to KFOR and Kosovo Police vehicles, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports.
On May 29, 2023, 93 KFOR members suffered injuries – some of them serious – after clashes with Serbian protesters.
There were also injuries from this clash on the protesters' side.
The violence in Zvecan erupted after local Serbs opposed the entry of new Albanian mayors into municipal buildings in Zvecan, Leposavić and Zubin Potok – municipalities in northern Kosovo inhabited by a Serb majority, following local elections held earlier that year that were boycotted by Serbs.
Kosovo authorities have arrested and charged dozens of suspects over the violence in Zvecan last year.

So far, several people have been sentenced to prison after plea agreements with the prosecution in connection with the violence in Zvecan.
Kosovo has blamed Serbia for the violence in Zvecan, saying that behind the violence were "criminal groups close to the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić."
But Belgrade has rejected this accusation, saying that the Kosovo government was aiming to push the Serbs "towards a new conflict with NATO."
NATO has consistently called for the perpetrators of violence to be held accountable.
