Is this the oldest carving made by man in stone?

A new archaeological discovery in Spain could change our understanding of the origins of human art.

Researchers have discovered a simple carving in the shape of an "X" on a stone block near Marbella, thought to be over 200,000 years old.

The latest find follows previous discoveries of some of the oldest stone tools in Europe, dating back to the early Paleolithic period.

In 2022, a giant stone block with carved lines was found, which researchers believe may have been created by the first people to migrate from Africa to Europe.

If the dating is confirmed, these marks could be older than known cave art by 100,000 years, providing new evidence for the development of visual expression in ancient humans.
