Elon Musk: In 20 years, work will be just a hobby

Elon Musk has made one of the most shocking statements about the future of humanity in recent years. Speaking at the US-Saudi Investment Forum in Washington, the tech billionaire said that artificial intelligence and humanoid robots will so profoundly transform the global economy that within 10 to 20 years, traditional work will no longer be necessary. According to him, people will work only for fun, just like they play sports or computer games.

Musk said that the advancement of robotics and AI will eliminate poverty, turning the lack of means into an “engineering problem” rather than a social one. According to him, robots will perform the vast majority of jobs, while humans will have the luxury of choosing whether they want to work or not. He compared the future to the ability to go to the store and buy everything you need, or to grow your own vegetables in the yard, simply because you enjoy the process.

On the same stage, Musk also talked about a major technology partnership: his company xAI will collaborate with Humain, a Saudi state-backed firm, to build xAI’s largest data center outside the U.S. The project will be powered by up to 500 megawatts of electricity and is being developed in collaboration with Nvidia. It’s a clear signal that the global race for artificial intelligence is getting even more intense, with investments reaching far beyond the tech industry.

Although Musk's vision is extremely optimistic, he acknowledged that this change will require time, new infrastructure, and a reorganization of the entire social system. But according to him, the direction is unstoppable: society will evolve towards a reality where physical labor will no longer be necessary and where the concept of money may gradually lose its relevance.

If these predictions come true, future generations could live in a world where work is no longer an obligation, but a choice. For now, it remains to be seen how quickly technology will move towards this new revolution.
