Three Chinese astronauts who were stranded in space have returned to Earth

Three Chinese astronauts, who had been stranded for days on the Chinese space station Tiangong due to damage to their return ship, returned to Earth today.
The astronauts returned safely on another ship, according to authorities.

The return was originally scheduled for November 5, after the completion of a six-month mission to the Chinese space station.

It was postponed because cracks were discovered in their Shenzhou-20 spacecraft, which was docked to the station, as a result of a collision with space debris. Such damage poses a life-threatening risk to the crew during reentry into Earth's atmosphere.

Hanging from a giant red and white parachute, the space capsule carrying the crew of the Shenzhou-20 mission began to slowly lose altitude before touching down on the deserted ground of the landing site in Inner Mongolia (northern China), according to footage broadcast by Chinese state television CCTV.

Arriving at 16:40 local time, the three men, Chen Dong (46 years old), Chen Zhongrui (41 years old) and Wang Jie (36 years old), are in good health, the Chinese space agency for manned flights, CMSA, assured.
